KBlossoms have created a new collection of Hunger Games mocking jay jewelry for all fans out there! These mocking jays are connected with citrine and gold rutilated quartz stones to make these unique necklaces and earrings. The mocking jay is the pin that Katniss wears to the game and is a symbol of the rebellion. The Hunger Games is a young adult novel written by Suzanne Collins and is now a motion picture set to be released on March 23, 2012! It is about a sixteen year old girl named Katniss Everdeen who lives in a post-apocalyptic world in the country of Panem that is divided into 12 districts and is ruled by the Capitol, who live in luxury in a beautiful city while the other factions live like peasants. The members of the Capitol have absolute power over the rest of the nation and harvest all the resources of the other factions for themselves. The Hunger Games are an annual event in which one teenage boy and girl from each of the 12 districts surrounding the Capitol are selected by lottery to compete in a nationally televised battle to the death where there can be only one survivor. The last child to survive wins a lifetime of luxury and a celebrity status. The purpose of the Hunger Games is for the Capitol to assert control over the other factions by sacrificing their children to the games every year. The Hunger Games is a chilling, bloody and horrific story reminiscent of the Gladiator times but with teenagers fighting to the death. The life in the other factions are very hard where people work in hard labor mining coal, farming, working in factories in dismal conditions. Katniss is a 16 year old girl from District 12 who hates the Capitol and loves her family, so much that she volunteers to take the place of her sister, whose name came up in the lottery for the Hunger Games. Katniss is a skilled hunter bow and arrow and often hunts illegally outside the electric fences of District 12. She doesn't like to kill but she has to for her own survival in the Hunger Games. I was so lucky to have had the opportunity to visit Oakland during the end of February. The weather in Oakland was sunny and warm and felt like early Spring! All the pink magnolia trees you see above were in full bloom at Preservation Park. They add beautiful Springtime foliage to a circle of beautiful Victorian homes that remind me so much of the colorful gingerbread homes of Martha's Vineyard, MA! The pink cherry blossoms seen above are taken from Rockridge, this upper class area of Oakland. Rockridge is a ritzy area with beautiful boutique shops, coffee houses, restaurants, and markets. They have many residential streets just lined with these pink blossoms in full bloom! I'm so delighted to capture these pink magnolia and cherry blossom photos on my camera.
Oakland's blossoming pink magnolias and cherry blossom trees has inspired me to create these cherry blossom jewelry made of rose pearl, resin sakuras, Swarovski crystal, rose quartz, glass, and other precious stones. To see more please visit my Etsy shop online: www.kblossoms.etsy.com |
