My name is Kathy Kwan and I'm a Chinese American Los Angeles based self-taught artist who grew up painting and designing jewelry as a hobby.  I have been painting for over 20 years in various mediums like acrylic, watercolor, gouache and Copic markers.  I am inspired by the beauty of nature and its colors when I paint.  I like to portray happiness and tranquility in my  nature inspired paintings; my favorite subject to paint are cherry blossoms.  I work as Program Manager in a large health plan in the public health field but in my spare time, I love to go hiking all over the world to see waterfalls, fall foliage, hot springs, mountain caves, ocean views or flower fields with my husband.  Then I would go home and paint the flowers, mountains, lakes, waterfalls, and sunset scenes and make nature-inspired jewelry designs.
I started Kblossoms painting cherry blossoms; now I'm branching into painting cactus, succulents, plants, mountains, other nature inspired themes and brush lettering. My favorite medium to paint in is watercolor but I also use acrylogouache, color pencils and Copic markers to create my artwork.  My first inspiration to paint cherry blossoms came from living in Boston where I went to grad school at the Harvard School of Public Health.  I used to live right behind the Back Bay Fens Park where there were cherry blossoms in bloom during the Spring.  During the weekends or after class, to relax, I would take strolls into the Back Bay Fens Park and watch the Canadian geese eat grass or squirrels run around in the trees.  The cherry blossom trees would bloom in light pink, white or yellow colors and the petals would fall all around me as if it was raining petals as I'm rollerblading on the Esplanade by the Charles River or just walking around or reading at the Bay Bay Fens Park.  My favorite place in the world to see cherry blossoms is Japan! I went to see cherry blossoms all over
Japan in the Spring of 2019 and it was the most beautiful sight to see as the ephemeral sakura trees were blooming and petals were falling all over Tokyo, Osaka and Kyoto!  Cherry blossoms are a symbol of inner beauty and youth and has a certain delicate freshness to it.  Painting cherry blossoms brings me joy, happiness, and inner peace.  I hope that my cherry blossom paintings will bring joy and happiness to you and your loved one's life as it does to mines.
Jewelry is a beautiful and romantic piece of art. When you give someone a piece of jewelry as a gift, it symbolizes two spirits connected, whether it be friends, sisters, lovers or relatives. It has sentimental value when that person wears it; they will always think about the person who gave it to them.  So I hope my nature-inspired jewelry can represent something special and sentimental for your loved ones and bring them happiness in life.  Jewelry designing has been a hobby of mine since graduate school where I would always go to Beadworks in Boston to learn the art of jewelry making.  In August of 2010, I started designing jewelry because I'm inspired by nature and animals around me when I go hiking in the mountains or relaxing on the beach.  These nature-inspired jewelry are made for women who live in the big city but love nature and the outdoors.  All jewelry items are made with high quality precious stones, matte gold, sterling silver, and 14k gold-filled wire and components.
