My name is Kathy Wong (黃銓慧) and I'm a Chinese American Los Angeles based artist who grew up painting and making jewelry as a hobby. I have been painting for over 10 years mostly still life objects, flowers, and animals. I am inspired by the beauty of nature and its colors. I like to portray happiness and tranquility in my cherry blossom paintings. I trained at the world renown Art Center College of Design of Pasadena. I love to paint and make jewelry to make people happy and appreciate the beauty of nature around them. I work full time as a Program Manager in the public health field but in my spare time, when I find any, I love to go hiking in the local mountains of Malibu and Topanga State Park to see waterfalls, city, or ocean views or visit arboretums and take pictures of flowers in bloom. Then I would go home and paint cherry blossom trees juxtaposed upon mountain, lake, waterfall, and sunset scenes and make nature-inspired jewelry designs.
Jewelry is a beautiful and romantic piece of art. When you give someone a piece of jewelry as a gift, it symbolizes two spirits connected, whether it be friends, sisters, lovers or relatives. It has sentimental value when that person wears it; they will always think about the person who gave it to them. So I hope my nature-inspired jewelry can represent something special and sentimental for your loved ones and bring them happiness in life. Jewelry designing has been a hobby of mine since graduate school where I would always go to Beadworks in Boston to learn the art of jewelry making. In August of 2010, I started designing jewelry to sell on this website because I'm inspired by nature and animals around me when I go hiking in the mountains or relaxing on the beach. These nature-inspired jewelry are made for women who live in the big city but love nature and the outdoors. All jewelry items are made with high quality precious stones, matte gold, sterling silver, gold-filled wire and components.
My first inspiration to paint cherry blossoms came from living in Boston where I went to grad school at the Harvard School of Public Health. I used to live right behind the Back Bay Fens Park where there were cherry blossoms in bloom during the Spring. During the weekends or after class, to relax, I would take strolls into the Back Bay Fens Park and watch the Canadian geese eat grass or squirrels run around in the trees. My favorite time of the year in Boston is the Spring, where I would see tons of cherry blossom trees all over the city. The cherry blossom trees would bloom in light pink, white or yellow colors and the petals would drop all around me as if it was raining petals as I'm rollerblading on the Esplanade by the Charles River or just walking around or reading at the Bay Bay Fens Park. It's a gorgeous site to see. One day I would like to attend the National Cherry Blossom Festival in DC in the Spring. I began my cherry blossom painting collection right after I moved into my own apartment in the winter of 2009 and wanted to decorate it with an Asian style interior decor.
Cherry blossoms are a symbol of inner beauty and youth and has a certain delicate freshness to it. Painting cherry blossoms brings me joy, happiness, and inner peace. I hope that these cherry blossom paintings will bring joy and happiness to you and your loved one's life as it does to mines. Soon I will branch out to painting not only cherry blossoms, but almond blossoms, peach blossoms, pink magnolias, lotuses, etc... because they all blossom beautifully in the Spring, giving me inspiration to paint from the heart.
