California poppies are in full bloom and have inspired my Kblossoms nature inspired carnelian and orange agate jewelry designs above! The above orange poppies were taken at the Arcadia Arboretum where the recent rains have caused the poppy flowers to bloom bright orange in color! These poppies are so beautiful and vibrant brilliant orange color, reminding me of a scene from the Wizard of Oz! You can find flowering CA poppies in the Spring in late Feb to April in grassy open areas such as the grasslands of CA valleys, meadows and hillsides. The CA poppy meadows have the most impressive wildflower displays in the world! They love the sun and open their petals in brilliant orange color. You can find beautiful poppy fields in all over CA from Antelope Valley, San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara, Bear Valley Colusa. We just came back from our vacation in Utah where we visited the beautiful landscapes of Zion, Bryce, and Escalante National Parks! We were amazed by the magnificent orange canyons, hoodos, sandstone peaks, slot canyons, waterfalls and pools all over Utah! We hiked along the Virgin River that carves through beautiful orange sandstone peaks and is lined with green trees and grass. We even were daring enough to hike the freezing waters of the Narrows which is the most popular hike in Zion Park. The water was sometimes waist deep in some areas and freezing cold so we had to turn around because we didn’t have enough gear to keep warm.
We also enjoyed hiking the Queen’s Garden and Navajo Trail where we were surrounded by beautiful orange hoodoos in Bryce Canyon. The dramatic breathtaking scenery all around us felt like being in a rock amphitheater made of iron oxide, which creates the different shades of deep reds, oranges, browns, yellows, and white lime stones. As we hiked to the bottom of the Navajo trail, we were amazed by the glowing orange light reflected off the huge gold and orange canyon walls called "Wall Street".
We later spent about two days at the Grand Staircase Escalante National Park where we hiked for 6 miles into the base of a canyon to see this breath-taking 200 foot waterfall. The crystal clear waters of Calf Creek plunge over a sandstone cliff into a transparent pool of cold water creating this magnificent waterfall. We also hiked the Peek-a-Boo and Spooky Slot Canyons in Escalante, which were the most strenuous hikes I have ever done in my life. It involved some rock climbing skills where we had to climb up a 20 foot rock, jump into two pools of mud, scramble over and under massive rocks, and squeeze our bodies through tiny narrow crevices between huge orange rock walls. It felt a little claustrophobic in some spots especially after having watched the movie “127 Hours”.
This once in a life time experience was totally worth it where we were able to capture in our photos and our memory, the magnificent orange rock formations created by millions of years of sedimentation, storms, floods, and wind. These beautiful orange rock landscapes of Utah have inspired all of our orange earring and necklace creations on KBlossoms! Hope you are inspired to visit Utah soon!
